3 Ways to Sell Your TCG Collections

You might own some trade binders from games that you played or collection you had during simpler times, that consist variations of CharizardBlack Lotus or Michael Jordan’s Rookie Card lay forgotten in your closet collecting dust and cobwebs. You might be pleasantly surprise on  how much the collectables market has grown and your collection could be worth a pretty penny.

So what’s next? You’ll need to get an estimate of what your cards are worth, keep in mind that conditions of the cards will affect its value. The best way in my opinion is to check the cards market value through eBay’s sold listings, specifically using 130point because it shows you in detail what the buyers offered price was.

Next it would be ways you could sell your collection:

Magic the Gathering Bitter Blossom, Pokemon Charizard, Flesh & Blood Dash, Inventor

1. Sell it Yourself (Hustle)

This might be the way to go if you want to maximize your gains, having said that it also means it’s the most work for you because aside from taking pictures to listing the cards there are other areas that requires your attention. In no particular order you would have to:-

  • Search for the marketplaces or FB groups that will have buyers.
  • Check the value and conditions of the cards.
  • List the card on various marketplaces (remember to remove the listings from all marketplaces after you sold your item)
  • Answer customer queries and requests.
  • Handle packing and shipping.
  • Handle after sales issues if any.
Duration Needed: Depending on the size of your collection this can take anywhere between 3 – 12 months selling off your collection piece by piece.

2. Sell Your Collection to a Store

This would be the most straight forward way to sell your collection.

Walk into a card store, show them your collection, they will apprise it and come back to you with an offer. Before hand you should already check and gauged what your collection is worth, and when the store gives you an offer usually it would be 50 – 60% off the market value that is adjusted for different card conditions.

e.g if your collection is worth around $10,000 market value you should get an offer somewhere between $4k – $5k.

Duration Needed: Usually the store should be able to make the deal with you within 1 -3 days

3. Sell it with 2359HRS.COM

This would be somewhat a hybrid between selling it by yourself and selling it to a store. You will engage us to list, document and auction your collection. All you have to do is send us your collection (with your packing list) and we will do the rest. From evaluating the condition to sending it to the customers, 2359hrs.com will charge you a 10% listing fee and all the remainder profits goes to you.

Q: Would the auction ending price be unpredictable?

A: It depends on the market value and the desirability of the card. Cards that are rare and desirable can go between 85% – 130% of the market value (condition of the card plays a big part). For modern day cards we still see them sell for 70% – 80% of the cards market value.

e.g similar to the previous scenario your $10,000 market value cards can be sold between $8k – $13k, after 10% fees you should still nett around $7k – $11k.

Duration Needed: Depending on the size and content of your collection it might take between 1-2 months. This included the evaluation of the cards conditions to scanning and listing individual cards.

At the end all 3 methods will make sense for different people. If we have peaked your interest and you would like to know more about 2359hrs.com feel free to email us at [email protected] to arrange for a call with our auction expert.
